I've started taking some measurements with a caliper, as best I can. So I guess the MSI heatsinks maybe aren't all that great, but it's still better than nothing! Before, running two Samsung Magician performance benchmarks in a row would get the drive up to 57 degrees C after, to 52 degrees C. I need to do something to make these SSDs touch the motherboard’s heatsinks.Īny suggestions on getting them to make contact? Should I scrape off the included thermal pads on the heatsinks and buy thicker ones somewhere? Should I buy additional thermal pads and stack them? In either case, does anyone have suggestions for specific thermal pads to buy?įor anyone interested in making a Samsung 990 Pro work with the onboard heat sinks, I bought 1.5mm thick, 2.0mm thick, and 2.5mm thick thermal pads and placed the 1.5mm and 2.0mm ones on top of the drives and 2.5mm on the bottom. So the SSDs just float in the center of the M.2 slot with an air gap, without touching the heatsink above or below. It seems that my M.2 NVMe SSDs (Samsung 980 Pro and 990 Pro) are too thin to make contact with the thermal pads on the built-in M.2 heatsinks on my motherboard (MEG X670E ACE).
